Propeller workshop
Reconditioning and overhaul of propeller blades
Hoyer VMS specialises in reconditioning and overhaul of damaged or bent propeller blades – from demounting on-site to repair, delivery and commissioning.
We repair bronze and stainless steel propellers according to classification society requirements, including approved special welding procedures where required.
Services include:
- Ultra-polishing
- Welding, straightening and cavitation repairs
- Edge restoring and new blade tips
- Balancing of propellers
- Machining of blade feet and hubs
- Manufacturing of new propeller blades
- Heat treatment and documentation
To help maintain efficiency and reduce fuel consumption, we polish blades in several steps and straighten damaged or bent blades where possible.
Machining and lineboring where the vessel is
Our specialists perform on-site machining and lineboring to support repair and maintenance of propulsion and rotating equipment.
By carrying out selected work on-site, we help reduce handling, shorten repair time and minimise operational disruption.
Gear systems
Repair and maintenance of marine transmissions
Hoyer VMS carries out repair, maintenance and installation of reduction gears and marine transmission systems across major brands, including Masson, Wärtsilä, Alpha, Mekanord, ZF and Rolls-Royce.
Our work includes machining of bearing housings, laser alignment, troubleshooting of control and oil systems, and service of OD-box and pitch control systems.
With workshop and on-site capabilities, lifting equipment, hydraulic tools and 24-hour support, we help keep gear systems operating reliably.
Shaft workshop
Straightening, alignment and shaft repair
Hoyer VMS specialises in reconditioning damaged shafts and is approved by classification societies to carry out cold straightening of propeller shafts.
Our shaft capabilities include:
- Heat treatment and thermal arc spray
- Line boring of bushings and stern tubes
- Straightening up to Ø280 with a force of 1,000 tons
- Shaft length without limit
- Crack testing before and after straightening
- Repair or new casting of white metal bearings
- Bonding and repair of shaft seals
- Manufacturing of new shafts
- Shaft alignment and 24-hour service
We also hold class-approved raw material to support fast repair and manufacturing.
